Our surgeons are certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.  They have achieved an extraordinary level of knowledge and skill in neurosurgery and passed rigorous examinations proving their competence in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders or injuries to the brain, spinal cord or peripheral nerves (such as nerves in the hands or feet).  They are also clinical faculty members in the department of surgery at Michigan State University.  Lansing Neurosurgery is a general neurosurgery practice treating patients from newborn to elderly with all varieties of brain and spinal disorders, from major trauma and disease to persistent pain.  This means you can be sure your care and the care of your loved ones is in the very best hands.

Using the latest techniques and technologies, including non-invasive options, our surgeons treat a variety of brain disorders and injuries, including brain tumors, head and neck trauma and vascular diseases of the brain such as aneurysms and stroke. We have experience in treating a variety of disorders, including:

Arteriovenous Malformations:

Defects of the circulatory system that are generally believed to arise during the embryonic or fetal development or soon after birth.

Brain Tumors:

A mass of unnecessary and abnormal cells growing in the brain.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

Occurs when the median nerve in the wrist becomes inflamed after being aggravated.

Cavernous Malformation:

Occurs when a blood-filled mass resembling a tumor, called a hemangioma, forms.

Cerebral Aneurysm:

The dilation, bulging, or ballooning out of part of the wall of a vein or artery in the brain.

Head Trauma:

Occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain.

Hemorrhagic Stroke:

Occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, spilling blood into the spaces surrounding brain cells.

Hydrocephalus:

Occurs when excess cerebrospinal fluid builds up within ventricles of the brain and may increase pressure within the brain.

Spinal Arteriovenous Malformations: Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are defects of the circulatory system that disrupt the vital blood circulatory system. Although AVMs can develop in many different sites, those located in the brain or spinal cord—the two parts of the central nervous system—can have especially widespread effects on the body.
Our physicians have many years of service to the mid-Michigan community and experience in treating all kinds of patients, young and old, from those needing the most common or routine procedures, to complex spinal reconstruction and sophisticated spinal instrumentation. We use the latest surgical techniques, including laser spine surgery and microsurgery to treat patients with a wide range of spinal disorders including:

Back Pain:

Pain in the upper or lower back can have a range of causes, from muscle overexertion to more serious disorders.

Compression Fractures:

When the bone tissue of the vertebral body collapses.

Degenerative Spinal Disorders:

Degenerative spinal disorders are a combination of problems in the spine that involve a loss of normal structure and function. These disorders can be associated with damage to the disc caused by the normal effects of aging, but may have a variety of other causes as well.

Disc Herniation:

Activity, aging, or a mechanical problem in the spine causing one of the disks to bulge.

Disorders of the Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar Spine:

The neck (cervical spine), mid-back (thoracic spine) and low back (lumbar spine) can be affected by a range of disorders and diseases, with many treatment options for each.

Neck Pain:

Neck pain can be a symptom of a variety of disorders or diseases of any structure of the neck.

Osteoporosis:

Deterioration of bone tissue.

Spinal Infections:

Spinal infections have many causes, including those resulting from a disease and those that affect the spine primarily.

Spinal Instability:

Lumbar instability occurs when the joints and discs of the spine do not function well together under normal movement conditions, resulting in pain.

Spinal Stenosis:

Narrowing of the canal that houses the spinal cord and nerve roots.

Spine Trauma:

Spinal trauma is damage to the spinal cord resulting in loss of movement or sensation.  The American Spinal Injury Association classifies spinal trauma into five types.

Spinal Tumors:

Tumors of the spine, particularly those that have not spread from elsewhere in the body, are rare.
